Best Humidifier Best Humidifier For Allergies?

Nancy asks…

Is this a mild sign of beginning ALLERGIES?

I am having a SERIOUS(??) case of draining sinuses! – I have been coughing and sniffling since Saturday (4 days ago.)

I have (thankfully) never suffered allergic symptoms since birth (46 years ago.)
I live in the Texas panhandle region; which is notorious for dry-heat and consistent winds.
With these two elements weighing against me, how (what techniques) should I try to encourage indoors? Should I run a humidifier indoors to help moisten my sinuses or should I try to continue re-re-replacing my air filter in my central air unit?

I also have either a COOL air moisturizer and a WARM air vaporizer available to use. %Which one should do *best* for my indoor air needs?

Kinda sounds to me like you have a cold. If you’ve always lived in the same area and haven’t recently moved I don’t think that allergies are your issue. You can develop allergies later in life, but I don’t think that allergies normally make you cough…you didn’t say you were sneezing or suffering from hay fever or anything of that nature.

Try using a neti pot. It’s a device that kind of looks like a small tea pot that’s used to put salt water (enough non iodized salt in water to be about the same as your tears) through one nasal cavity and out the other. It will help clean out your sinus cavity of impurities and the salt will help dry up the overactive mucus membranes. You can google “neti pot” for more information on the usage and benefits. It can be used several times a day because there are no drugs going into your system. The salt changes the pH in your sinuses as well making it much more difficult for bacteria to thrive. I know it sounds weird if you’ve never done it before but there are thousands of people who swear by it. Trust me, you’ll feel like a new person.

Donna asks…

My 17 month old has r.a.d?

My son was diagnosed with reactive airway disease. He is constantly coughing. I have taken all suggestions from his pediatrician and use a humidifier/purifier in his room.
I make sure my apt is constantly clean and free of dust. I elevate his head at night and keep him away from anything that could trigger it. Nothing works! He coughs all night long.

He has a blankey that he sucks on. The corners of the blankey are gross. I wash it as much as I can (2 times a week usually) could this be what is triggering his coughing attacks?

I’m in a health course at college and my teacher is a nurse and had suggested I ask his pediatrican to do a scratch test (allergy) although he is too young for an allergy test would this be the best way to go?

I was told that you can’t test for allergies until a child is 2.

Lizzie asks…

is there ANY relief for my sinusitis?

I have for the past month and a half have nothing but a stuffy and runny nose. I am not congested, it’s a huge crap load of inflammation. I have really bad allergies. The janitor at my school does a horrible job so my school is COVERED in dust and crap. Sadly so is my house. My mom is really lazy when it comes to taking me to the doctor. If I have a dr. appt coming up like a check up I will complain right there and have them schedule it because I know my mom will never do it. I really need some sleep. I have bags and dark circles really bad. Concealer can only go so far. I am really, really tired. If i don’t find some relief soon my grades will drop and I will be kicked out of my school and not allowed to ever return(i really need to stay where i am, itVick’se best school in the county and the others are overrun by bad teachers drugs & shoot outs). Now matter what i take, nothing works. The new Advil, humidifier, vicks rub, saline spray, tried many diff allergy tablets. Nothing works.

Someone, anyone PLEASEEEEEEE help!
Vick’s shouldn’t be in between it and school

I have tried breathe right but I didn’t know it had latex in them. I am allergic to that. And before you say “Did you read the label” well YES I DID. I got ti at Kroger and it had an orange managers sale price sticker on the back of it. >_<

It sounds like you may need to be tested and treated for allergies by a specialist. Talk openly to your mom about how much the sinusitis is affecting you. Are there other family members who can take you if your mom won’t? If not talk to your school nurse or counselor to see if they have connections to get you to the doctor. Just asking them to talk to your mom if she doesn’t listen to you may get her to take you to the doctor.

The saline sprays sound like you are on the right track. You can actually do what is called a “nasal douche”. Stand in a warm shower and “snort” in the warm shower water then blow it out. Or you can do the same thing with “saline water” by inhaling it into your sinus cavities.

If you have an infection (usually indicated by fever, thick green or yellow mucus) you will need to see a doctor to get antibiotics.

Try cleaning your room yourself while wearing a mask (you can wear a damp hankerchef or bandana) or get one of your brothers and sisters to clean it for your. Keep your room free of clutter, down pillows, stuff animals. Perfumes and other things you may be allergic to.
