Best Humidifier Best Humidifier For Baby?

Paul asks…
Should I put the humidifier close enough to my baby where the mist flows over his face?
It seems to work best if it’s flowing directly over his face while he sleeps. (And if i put him slightly elevated all the better). But my main concern is if it’s bad for him to be breathing this heavily moisturized and cold mist for prolonged periods of time. I’ve googled away to no avail. 3 feet is the best estimate I get but it just doesn’t seem to work.
In addition I took my baby to the Dr. today to see if it was Bronchitis. It wasn’t. She suggested I invest in a baby humidifier. I waited to use it till he went to sleep and her office is closed or I would be asking her. Just to be safe it’s about 2 feet away and at its lowest level now that he is sleeping. I can hear the stuffy nose coming back though. It’s hard to tell what’s best. I guess I’ll just stay up and keep an eye on him.
It’s a cool mist humidifier.

Pneumonia??? Bronchitis???
Dont do that, why would you want to? A cold heavy moisture enriched stream of air directly onto your baby, Im sorry but your asking for something very nasty to happen.. Please please dont do this. Get a room nebuliser, or a vapouriser, see a doctor, move house. Just not that..
If your child has a congestion issue, a blocked nose or sinus problems, try rubbing a weak mixture of vicks or kalvol on a piece of linen out of reach as it wont be very nice if the little one gets hold of it, try running yourself a hot bath or shower, close the bathroom door and windows and take baby with you, just NOT in the bath. The resulting steam will loosen the catarrh and ease the sinus problems. You can get de congestive electric plug in’s such as those also made by vicks there are others on the market I refer to vicks as they are the ones i use and trust. The cool mist humidifier in my wifes opinion who is a medical surgeon would benefit the child, your child must remain warm not damp and the air must remain with as few impurities as possible. If your child has an infection then keeping it cool will not be doing the child any favours, at around 6 months old the child loses its mothers immune system and develops its own, this means it will get colds and sniffles, the childs immune system assuming there are no anti-Immune problems then the warmer the child the better and faster the babies immunities will beat the infection. Having said that do not allow your child to over heat, the ambient and core temperatures are 22 degs C for room and above 35 but below 42.3 c as this is fever boundaries. The issue that my wife is stressing is that the air must be ambient room temp, dry and pure, other wise it’ll be like leaving your child in the garden shed over night.

Jenny asks…
What’s the best way to clean out my son’s nose?
My son HATES it when I try to clean out his nose with a baby q-tip or a wipe. He screams like someone is trying to murder him. He gets dried up (for lack of a better word) buggers in his nostrils and I have a very hard time getting them out. I’ve tried saline solution, but it doesn’t seem to help. Any suggestions? I don’t have a humidifier or the ability to get one at the moment.

I pick my Daughters nose and like someone else said, if I cant get it, then I leave it or I wait for her to sneeze and duck.

Donna asks…
Daughter has cold…I think?
My daughter is 6 1/2 months and has never been sick. She is teething and i think she has a tooth coming in on the top plus the tooth that is still working its way to being a full standing tooth. She has always had the occasional bugger or two but this morning she woke up with curt under her nose and i had to have pulled at least 3 huge bugger out. the tip of her nose is red and she looks alittle tired, i just put her down for her nap and she went down to easy. she was asleep before i even left the room and normally it takes a cry or two and the mobile winded twice and i didn’t even whined it. She woke up at 8 and normally she goes down at 11 not 10:15. but we also have gas heat and i wake up stuff sometimes but never crusty unless i have a head cold. We dont have a Humidifier and are getting one after she wakes up from nap. also i was going to get some baby cold Tylenol. But i cant tell if its a cold or the heat or just the top tooth coming in screwing with her sinus. I think its a cold but i have never been through this before so i donno. If its a cold can i put vicks in the Humidifier or is that to strong for baby‘s nose and what kinda cold meds are best for baby and do i give her the same as i do with regular Tylenol??
answers:
It’s probably just from the tooth. You can give her the baby tylenol and just use a warm washcloth for the crusties. I wouldn’t put the Vick’s in the humidifier though. Not sure why but i’ve always been warned against it. They have baby rub you can put on her chest though. You can always call her doctor or talk to the nurse to be sure it’s nothing to worry about. Hope she gets better soon
