Best Humidifier Humidifier Target?

Joseph asks…

Crane Penguin Humidifier?

I bought the humidifier from Target, like last month. I brought it in to work because it is very dry in my office and I thought it looked cute sitting on my desk. Well it worked really well until about a week ago.

I left my office and for about 2 hours and came back it was still on but it was not blowing out any mist. And it was hot to touch. I turned it off and dumped the water and let it sit and cool down. But it is still not working.

So my question is. Does any one have one of the Crane Humidifiers Manual and can tell me what is wrong / or a link to one online, where I can find out if I’m just out 30 bucks or what?

answers:

It sounds like it has scaled up. You can clean it with coffee machine de-scaler.

The product may be made outside the US as there were no U.S. Manufacturers.

Mandy asks…

how do you know when to change the filter on a cool mist Humidifier?

I have an American Red Cross Cool Mist Humidifier that I got from Target, I can’t find the manual so i’m not sure when to change the filter and where to get them…Target did not sell them when I got it.
Thanks

You can find a copy of the manual here:

http://content.learningcurve.com/wps/wcm/connect/61c224804a37ffd888eba90609b3b3fc/Y7129.pdf?MOD=AJPERES

It says:
A single filter should last anywhere from 2 months to several months, depending upon the extent of humidifier usage. If the degree of “white dust” increases noticeably during normal usage, this is an indicator that it is time to change the filter.

You can buy the filter at these websites:

http://www.amazon.com/First-Years-Replacement-American-Humidifier/dp/B0017S0O8W

http://www.learningcurve.com/product/detail/P74243?locale=en_US (this filter is for a different model than the other two)

Charles asks…

Is it safe to use a humidifier brand that has been recalled before?

I’m interested to buy a humidifier called: Hunter Care-free warm mist humidifier. This specific product has been recalled due to potential fire hazard. There are 4 reports from consumers of minor property damage from water leaking to the electrical components causing fire. Accordingto the website below, the recall is for products sold at stores nationwide from September 2005 through February 2006.

http://www.lawcash.com/recalls/family-dollar-pay-civil-penalty-failure-report-hazardous-electric-blankets-recall/alert/6281.asp

it’s 2007 now and I still see the product being sold at target.com, iallergy.com and several others. Does it mean that they have corrected the problem and is it safe to buy those products now? Or are these retailers trying to sell leftover products that still have the problem?

any input will be appreciated
*** correction: I mean the product not the brand. I’d like to buy this specific product that has been recalled before. So Is it safe to buy this product knowing that this product has been recalled before ? ***

answers:

There are several good humidifiers on the market that do not have that problem. Shop around a little or contact Consumers Reports for a list of recomended brands and models
You can lso contact a local HVAC company that sells and installs humidifiers and have warranties with them.
