Best Humidifier The Best Humidifier To Buy?

Mandy asks…

which violin humidifier to buy?

there are some brand out there and I’m not sure which one is best
- dampit (it sounds dangerous to me to tough the finish but is it good as many people use it?)
- Planet Waves humidifier
- Oasis OH-6 Case Humidifier
what are pros and cons of these? Which one you think be the most appropriate? I head someone once said that it’s better to humidify the room which the violin is in rather than the violin itself??
Anyhow, what is your way to keep your violin humidified?

Thank you very much!!

answers:

I have both a room humidifier and a Planet Waves to keep the humidity up when I go to gigs. I used to use a Dampit but it just got annoying after a while. It does not damage the finish at all (you wring it out enough that water doesn’t drip out) but it had to be re-wetted so often. The Planet Waves lasts longer. I’m not familiar with the Oasis.

As far as I’m concerned, a room humidifier is essential and a supplemental humidifier is optional. If your case is at school all day you should probably have either a case humidifier or a Dampit.

James asks…

alternatives to humidifiers?

what is an alternative to a humidifier? I know one of those color changing mist lamps double as a humidifier, what other ideas do you have. I would like to chose the person with the best idea, or the most good ideas to a humidifier bought in a store. A good idea is of course the misting lamp i already mentioned. thanks so much
I neglected to add that my heating is central heating and air, and, I need a humidifier of sorts for a giant green iguana, all the answers so far a pretty good, really good actually but only 3? I need more guys, please, give me more ideas.

answers:

An easy replacement for a humidifier is to fill up a large bowl with water and place it behind a floor-level fan. The fan will draw moisture from the bowl and keep the air in the room a little moist.

Another alternative is to hang a wet towel from a doorway.

Yet another choice is to put the same bowl of water close to a floor-level heat vent. Same principle.

In my opinion humidifiers are a good way to accumulate mold. That’s why I go with things that can be put in the dishwasher or washing machine with ease. That way there will be no weird black things growing in them, as often happens with the filters for humidifiers.

Daniel asks…

How to combat dry heat in the winter time?

What’s the best way and inexpensive way to combat dry heat in the winter time. I sleep in my bedroom right next to a radiator and wake up coughing and my skin gets dry. I don’t have the money to buy a really good humidifier and it would take up space in my bedroom. And should I sleep with vaseline on my skin at night? Thanks.

answers:

Drink 2 litres water daily to hydrate from the inside out. Your skin, hair, and bodily functions will repay you this kindness many times over. Warm water takes twice as long to go through you. Vaseline is petroleum based and will ultimately be more drying.
Instead, try Skin & Hair Plasma by Focus 21. It is a humectant, which means it binds moisture from the air into your skin & hair, Great for the frizzies, sunburn, windburn, etc, and is a clean fresh smell. 5 1/2 cup servings of produce will go a long, long way to help this too, visible results in 3 to 7 days.
Good luck, take good care of yourself =)
