What kind of humidifier / using Vick’s?
My 5 month old has nasal congestion & I want to get him a humidifier. What kind is best? Also, are there any safe natural alternatives to Vick’s? I have heard Vick’s is irritating to babies (even the baby kind).
Did you use a Cool Mist Humidifier or Steam Vaporizer?
answers:
I have Vick’s brand humidifier and it works really well, but I would consider buying a new one once my baby gets a little bigger. This is because it is a steam humidifier. There are ones out there now (and recommended by my doctor) that are cool mist humidifiers. There is no worry about your baby accidentally burning himself. Although they do require more cleaning.
I use the Johnson’s brand Soothing Vapor Bath – it even works for me!

Nancy asks…
Mounting Honeywell humidifier on furnace.?
Where is the best place to mount a humidifier, on supply or return duct? Or does it not matter?
Thanks for any info.
Is it best to mount a humidifier on the supply or return duct? Does it matter? The furnace is a high efficiency model, 2yrs old & has an Air Bear media filter.
Thanks for any info.
answers:
Depends on type of humidifier..if its the type that uses a bypass duct for its airflow then it doesnt matter…..if its the type that has its own fan built in then it needs to go on the supply duct……also refer to instruction manual for the water connection…i assume its the type that has fresh water flowing through it while its on,no sump with recirculated room temp water…if you have a heat pump then you need to connect to hot water…if gas furnace ,hot water prefereable but cold will work…if oil heat , cold water should be ok…also be sure to wire it so it only runs when the furnace blower is on,,and be sure to mount the humidistat per the install instructions……..dan
